Breast Lift

A breast lift, or mastopexy, can improve the appearance of your breasts in several ways. A breast lift elevates the breast tissue, repositions the areola, and enhances the shape of the breast.

This surgery does not significantly change the size of your breasts or round out the upper part of your breast. However, you can easily combine it with other breast procedures. If you want your breasts to look fuller, consider breast augmentation with lift surgery. Also, if you want smaller breasts, consider combining a lift with a breast reduction.

Breast Lift Types

DIFFERENT TYPES OF BREAST LIFT PROCEDURES

There are three general skin design patterns for breast lifts. These types of a mastopexy are based on:

  • The amount of skin that needs to be removed.
  • The distance the nipple-areola complex needs to be lifted to place it in an aesthetically pleasing position.
  • The amount of breast tissue that needs to be removed or repositioned.
  • Finally, the volume, if any, that needs to be restored with a breast implant.

WISE PATTERN BREAST LIFT

The Wise Pattern mastopexy is the original type of breast lift procedure. It lifts and shapes the breasts rather than focusing on the removal of excess breast tissue. This procedure is best for women with large problematic breasts. There is likely to be noticeable scarring due to the incision patterns needed to shape the breasts. However, it can significantly help with sagging breasts. The results produce an upright and youthful shaped breast. These benefits will make a positive change to your body and an even more significant contribution to renewing your self-image.

More Breast Lift Examples

PERIAREOLAR BREAST LIFT

Using special techniques, Periareolar Lift has less scarring than other types of breast lifts. There are also many varieties of forms for this procedure. Two popular versions of this are the Crescent Lift and the Donut Mastopexy.

CRESCENT LIFT

This is the least invasive of all mastopexy procedures. It produces a slight lifting and firming effect, raising your nipple 1-2 cm. This mastopexy is best for women with smaller breasts and minimal degrees of sagging.

DONUT MASTOPEXY

This is also commonly known as the Benelli breast lift or Concentric mastopexy. It is considered a modified type of breast lift because it requires fewer incisions and is less invasive than a traditional full uplift procedure. This technique can raise your nipple by 2-4 cm, making a significant difference in the appearance of your breasts. This procedure is best for women who have small to medium breasts with mild to moderate degrees of ptosis.

LeJour Breast Lift

The most common method of breast lift surgery is the LeJour. You might also know it as the Vertical or Lollipop breast lift. This technique is a trendy procedure for medium to large-breasted women with moderate to severe breast ptosis.

The LeJour breast lift is a moderate approach to mastopexy. It is less invasive than a Wise Pattern, but still requires incisions. These are necessary to eliminate any skin wrinkling or puckering around your nipple.

Breast Lift Procedure Overview

Every breast lift is unique. We understand that what works for one patient’s breasts might not for another’s. Dr. Moelleken adapts the procedure according to each individual patient. The general outline remains the same. Here is a synopsis of what you will experience during your mastopexy in five easy steps.

STEP 1 – ANESTHESIA

Medications are administered for your comfort during breast lift surgery. The choices include intravenous sedation and general anesthesia. Dr. Moelleken will recommend the best option for you.

STEP 2 – THE INCISION

There are three common incision patterns:

  • Around your areola.
  • Around your areola and vertically down from your areola to your breast crease.
  • Areola, vertically down from your breast crease, and horizontally along your breast crease.

STEP 3 – RESHAPING YOUR BREASTS

The following steps are different for each patient. One step might be more extensive and another lesser. It all depends on the unique shape of your breasts.

  • Your underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve breast contour and firmness.
  • Your nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height.
  • If necessary, enlarged areolas are reduced by excising skin at the perimeter.
Excess breast skin is removed to compensate for a loss of elasticity.

STEP 4 – CLOSING THE INCISION

After your breasts are reshaped, and the excess skin is removed, the remaining skin is tightened. Some incision lines resulting from different types of breast lift are concealed in your natural breast contours. However, others can be visible on the breast surface.

Incision lines are permanent, but in most cases, they will fade and improve over time. Sutures are layered deep within the breast tissue to create and support your newly shaped breasts. Stitches, skin adhesives, and surgical tape may be used to close the skin.

STEP 5 – RECOVERY & SATISFACTION

After your procedure, dressings or bandages are applied to the incisions. A small, thin tube may temporarily drain any excess blood or fluid. Dr. Moelleken provides specific instructions on how to care for your breasts following surgery. He also prescribes medications to apply or take orally to aid in healing and reduce the risk of infection.

The results of your breast lift surgery are immediately visible. Over time, post-surgical swelling will go away, and the incision lines will fade. Satisfaction with your new image should continue to build as you recover.

Am I a Candidate for a Mastopexy?

Over the years, a woman’s breasts go through a lot. They experience the toll of gravity, and they go through pregnancy and breastfeeding. Then aging genetics, aging, and extreme weight loss or gain can cause even more changes. Your skin loses elasticity, your breasts lose shape, and the loss of volume causes sagging to occur.

If you have experienced any of the above, then you may be a candidate for a mastopexy. The other qualifications are below:

  • Be in good health
  • Stable weight
  • Non-smoker at the time of surgery.

Breast Lift Recovery

Breast Lift procedure usually takes between two to four hours, along with a recuperation time of one to two weeks. Some scarring is expected, but it will be in the shape of a lollipop and not too intense. New scar reduction techniques can help minimize and conceal surgical marks.

Initially, your breasts will look a bit high, with pleating in the lower portion of your incisions. Over a few weeks, significant improvement in your breast shape will occur as your body adjusts naturally. It is important that you wear a supportive bra for about six weeks while you are healing.

We also advise that you avoid aerobic type exercise for at least three weeks. Also, avoid any strenuous activity for at least six weeks after your surgery.
