Hybrid Abdominoplasty® Procedure
The hybrid abdominoplasty® (hybrid tummy tuck®) is a short incision procedure that tightens the entire abdominal fascia. It differs from a traditional tummy tuck in that the incision is very short, approximately the same as for a C-section, rather than a hip-to-hip incision. It is most appropriate for women who are in excellent shape after childbirth, but have a bulge.
When women have had children, the lining of the abdominal muscles, called fascia, can rip and develop an abdomen bulge. The patient can often feel the layer of fat on the lower abdomen. This is a type of hernia, although other types of hernia can also develop. Liposuction alone removes excess fat but cannot tighten the fascia or remove hanging skin; for that, tightening the fascia via an abdominoplasty is necessary. There are several types of abdominoplasty, ranging from a minor removal of hanging skin (a micro-abdominoplasty) to a major abdominoplasty where a new umbilicus is made and the entire abdomen is tightened.
The hybrid abdominoplasty® is a new technique that offers the maximum benefit for women and men who are seeking upper abdominal tightening, with a minimal or “mini-tummy tuck” type of incision.
Dr. Moelleken and the patient can decide during consultation if hybrid abdominoplasty® is right for them.
