Skin Cancer Procedure

The first goal with skin cancers is to remove them so the chances of recurring are minimal. This is done with careful surgery and with the assistance of an experienced pathologist.

The second goal is to reconstruct the area where the tumor was as skillfully and artistically as possible. It is realistic with many small cancers to have minimal or no sign the tumor was there. With larger cancers or cancers in sensitive areas, the challenges increase. Often the difference between a well and poorly designed surgery is having or not having permanent deformity.

Early detection is vital; self-exams, as well as yearly visits to a skilled and patient dermatologist for a head-to-toe mole check, are a must.
